Rep. Israel Presents WWII Veterans with Long Overdue Service Medals
Wednesday December 03, 2008Hauppauge, NY— Wednesday, Rep. Steve Israel presented service medals to four WWII veterans from Long Island. Joined by veterans from the local community and the families of the service members, Israel presented the group with medals they earned but never received during their time in the military.
“Too often, our service members return from war and their efforts go unnoticed. Today, we recognize four brave men who are receiving long overdue honors for their service to our country. Their sacrifices during World War II and beyond will not soon be forgotten,” Israel said.
The veterans receiving medals are as follows:
Anthony Cilio, WWII Army Veteran from Central Islip:
Anthony proudly served from April 1942 until October 1945 with the U.S. Army. He was presented with the Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, WWII Honorable Service Lapel Button,
Marksman Badge and Rifle Bar.
Eli Hecht, WWII Army Veteran from Syosset:
Eli proudly served from December 1942 until October 1945 with the U.S. Army. He was presented with the American Campaign Medal.
Jerry Cedar, WWII Navy Veteran from Huntington:
Jerry proudly served with the U.S. Navy from January 1944 until 1953- his service spanned WWII and Korea. He was unaware of what medals he may have earned during his service. He will be presented with 9 medals including Navy Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, Navy Reserve Medal, Discharge Button, and the Honorable Service Lapel Pin.
Angelo Cogliano, WWII Army Veteran from North Babylon:
Angelo proudly served with the U.S. Army in 1945. He was presented with the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and the WWII Honorable Service Lapel Button.
