Congressional Art Contest
In the spring of every year, the United States House of Representatives hosts a Congressional Art Competition for High School artists. The competition promotes attention to the arts by recognizing talented young artists from across the nation.

Since this competition was created in 1982, hundreds of thousands of high school students have participated at the local level. The winning student from each district is invited to Washington, DC for the ribbon-cutting ceremony, and will have his or her artwork displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

Each high school student in the Second Congressional District is eligible to submit one piece per grade level. This year, Congressman Dave Loebsack in cooperation with the University Of Iowa School Of Art and Art History and the University of Iowa Civic Engagement Program hosted the Second Congressional District Art Competition on Saturday, April 28, 2007.
