Transportation

Indiana is known as the “Crossroads of America.” With hundreds of thousands of people from Indiana and across the country passing through Indianapolis via road, rail and plane, Congressman Carson knows that improving the infrastructure of Indiana’s Seventh Congressional District is of paramount importance.

PROTECTING OUR ROADS AND HIGHWAYS>> Having come to Washington to take on challenges, Congressmen Carson was proud to have supported the Highway Trust Fund Restoration Act. This legislation seeks to restore over $8 billion in funding to our nation’s Highway Trust Fund. Restoration of this critical funding will ensure that Indiana has the resources it needs to adequately repair our aging roads, highways and bridges.

SECURED FUNDING FOR PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION>> To better assist travelers immobilized by high gas prices, Congressman Carson has made it a priority to support increased funding for our nation’s public transit systems. Congressman Carson was pleased to support the Saving Energy Through Public Transportation Act of 2008. This bill will invest millions of dollars in our nation’s public transit systems and make public transportation more accessible and affordable for all Americans. Knowing that if all Americans used public transportation for 10% of their daily travel needs the United States could reduce its dependence on foreign oil by 40%, Congressman Carson fully understands the importance of investing in our public transit systems.

ENSURING FEDERAL FUNDING STAYS IN THE DISTRICT>> Congressmen Carson will always work to ensure that Indianapolis receives its fair share of federal dollars and he will work just as hard to keep those federal dollars in the district. Congressman Carson recently was able to save almost $400,000 in expiring funding and have it reallocated to IndyGo. This funding will allow IndyGo to purchase two new buses, saving the taxpayers from the expense of replacing the buses with city funds. This funding, in conjunction with an energy efficient grant, will allow IndyGo to buy two new hybrid busses, saving even more money for the city in fuel costs.
