Protecting the jobs of Central Indiana workers has been one of Congressman Carson’s top priorities since being elected. Congressman Carson is working to improve our local economy by creating additional job opportunities for local Hoosiers. Congressman Carson is also actively seeking to prevent the relocation of jobs out of the great Hoosier state.

HELPING LOCAL ATA WORKERS >> When ATA Airlines abruptly shut down, Congressman Carson quickly went to work in providing assistance to the nearly 600 ATA employees in the Indianapolis area who lost their jobs.

Congressman Carson met with ATA workers at his district office and lent assistance to those seeking to obtain unemployment insurance and other vital services. Congressman Carson also played a vital role in helping to secure over $3.5 million in federal assistance for local ATA workers unexpectedly displaced from their jobs.

ASSISTING BEECH GROVE AMTRAK EMPLOYEES >> When Amtrak announced that it was attempting to arbitrarily ship 80 jobs from its Beech Grove facility to sites in Delaware and Illinois, Congressman Carson immediately stepped in and successfully worked to halt the transfer of these jobs.

Congressman Carson testified before Members of the U.S. House of Representatives Transportation Committee on the importance of keeping these 80 jobs in Central Indiana. Upon the completion of his testimony, Congressman Carson was successful in getting language inserted into the Amtrak Reauthorization Bill that mandates Amtrak first issue a report to Congress on the usefulness of the proposed transfers before authorizing such an egregious act. Congressman Carson will continue fighting to ensure that Beech Grove jobs stay in Central Indiana.

HELPING WORKERS EXERCISE THEIR RIGHT TO ORGANIZE >> Congressman Carson has actively advocated on behalf of local hotel workers attempting to unionize. Congressman Carson has marched side by side with these hardworking Americans and has also been a vocal supporter of the Employee Free Choice Act, legislation that enables hardworking Americans to form and join labor organizations.
