Health Care

Congressman Carson is continually working to ensure that health care is more accessible and affordable for all Americans. Among his top priorities are addressing the needs of the 97 million uninsured and underinsured Americans.

UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE>> Congressman Carson has co-sponsored the United States National Health Insurance Act and the AmeriCare Health Care Act, bills that seek to ensure that every American has access to quality, affordable health care services.

MEDICARE FOR SENIORS>> President Bush has proposed significant cuts to the Medicare program. Congressman Carson is dedicated to reversing these cuts and increasing access to quality health care services for our seniors.

Congressman Carson recently joined his colleagues in supporting legislation that increases Medicare benefits for low-income recipients, prevents a 10 percent payment reduction for physicians who treat Medicare patients, and otherwise improves patient accessibility to doctors, pharmacists, and other medical professionals.

HEALTH CARE FOR CHILDREN>> Over 10 million low-income children are living without the security of health insurance because their parents do not qualify for Medicaid but are unable to afford private insurance.

Congressman Carson strongly believes that children’s access to health care should not be affected by the financial standing of their family. Accordingly, he is a strong supporter of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP), which will provide insurance coverage to 10 million needy children.

HIV/AIDS PREVENTION AND TREATMENT>> 30 million people are currently infected with HIV/AIDS, with 2 million dying from the disease every year. Over 1 million of those infected are living within the United States.

Congressman Carson played an instrumental role in the passage of the Hyde-Lantos HIV/AIDS Reauthorization Bill, which provides billions of dollars in aid to developing countries fighting high rates of HIV/AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis. Congressman Carson successfully added an amendment to this bill that creates a transatlantic, technological medium of exchange that allows African scientists and American medical professionals to collaborate on the best methods for treating and preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS on the African continent.
