    Following his work to help pass the economic rescue bill last month, Congressman Sestak remained focused on his constituents’ concerns about the economy. The Congressman urged the Attorney General to ensure a thorough investigation of those responsible for the fiscal crisis on Wall Street that has severely impacted his constituents, and wrote to Secretary Paulson and Speaker Pelosi to call for the Department of Treasury and Congressional leadership to take necessary steps to stabilize the economy.. Furthermore, he took part in a program that he initiated in partnership with Boeing to help local businesses win contracts, and met with leaders in local transportation about investments that can best stimulate the economy. In addition, Congressman Sestak continued to assume a lead role in the effort to halt the FAA’s harmful and flawed policies and commemorated Veterans Day with a full weekend of events recognizing local men and women who served our country.     In Washington, Congressman Sestak advocated for and helped pass a transparent and accountable bill needed to prevent a credit freeze during these turbulent economic times. Additionally, the Congressman won approval for his vital elder justice legislation, reached across the aisle to ensure former POW’s receive the compensation they earned and passed eight critical amendments to give our troops the support they deserve. At home, Congressman Sestak worked to provide resources to a variety of groups, including young Veterans and women business owners, announced an important victory in efforts with USPS on behalf of Garnet Valley constituents, and continued efforts to reduce violence.     During the past month, Congressman Sestak was hard at work, fulfilling his obligations as a representative by participating in numerous events where he addressed topics of importance to his constituents and provided as many of them as possible with access to him. After the last update in mid-August, the Congressman worked with the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency to prepare individuals for successful job searches; participated in multiple forums to discuss all facets of the energy issue; discussed the next steps to improving a local small business center; and crisscrossed his District, from Paoli and Bridgeport to Upper Chichester and Upper Darby, reaching out to constituents throughout the area. In addition to the August events mentioned in last month’s newsletter (including his summits that connected hundred of seniors with service organizations and revealed a comprehensive, regional watershed management plan) below are just a few highlights of the Congressman’s efforts.     In Washington , Congressman Sestak worked to ensure more effective healthcare for Veterans, voted to hold oil companies accountable for not drilling in areas where they are already approved to do so, and addressed the thousands of violent crimes that occur on college campuses each year. At home, the Congressman connected hundreds of senior constituents with service organizations, announced a comprehensive plan to improve watershed management throughout the region and reached out to all of his constituents with registered phone numbers through a series of eight telephone town halls.
