Upcoming Report Offers Congress Solutions

On Monday, December 15, CMF will release Communicating with Congress: Recommendations for Improving the Democratic Dialogue, a report synthesizing nearly 10 years of original research on the state of communications between citizens and Members of Congress into actionable recommendations for a more effective public policy dialogue in the 111th Congress.  

LD Training: Creating an Excellent Team

On December 12, CMF will host a training session exclusively for House Legislative Directors, facilitated by Kelly Zafar and Meredith Persily Lamel. The program will include:

  • Understanding what makes a great team
  • Identifying your team's strengths and weaknesses
  • Making your team productive and accountable
  • Building trust, respect, and open communication

Chief of Staff Training: Stand Up To and For Our Leaders

CMF recently hosted training for Chiefs of Staff and Staff Directors entitled "Courageous Followers: Stand Up To and For Our Leaders." It was facilitated by Ira Chaleff, former CMF Executive Director who has conducted dozens of consultations with congressional offices. Made possible through support from The Mercatus Center, The National Beer Wholesalers Association and The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).

Just Released: Setting Course for the 111th Congress

Now in its 11th edition, Setting Course is a comprehensive management guide to setting up and managing a congressional office.

It guides Members-elect through the strategic decisions they must make in their first 90 days while providing veterans offices ways to improve common congressional office functions. 

 

CMF Welcomes New Members of Congress and Staff

On November 19, CMF hosted a day-long workshop for the Aides of Members-elect: "Navigating the First 90 Days." It focused on the November-January transition to Congress and included expert panels of Freshman and Sophomore Chiefs of Staff.
