CONGRESSWOMAN SHEILA JACKSON LEE CELEBRATES VETERAN’S DAY

Recognizing The Brave Men and Women Who Have Sacrificed Their Lives For Freedom and Democracy

 

Houston, TX- Today, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, a senior Member of the Homeland Security Committee and a Member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, released the following statement regarding the meaning of honoring our Veterans.

“I am proud to honor our nation’s veterans. Throughout our country’s history, our brave men and women in uniform have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedoms around the world,” stated Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. “This is why I have always worked tirelessly to pass legislation that will give our veterans the benefits that they need and deserve.”

Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee has supported legislation the following legislation to support our veterans:
• H.R. 6081 - The Heroes Earnings Assistance and Relief Tax Act of 2008
• H.Res 1054 - Honoring the service and achievements of women in the Armed Forces and female veterans
• H.R. 2790 - To establish the position of Director of Physician Assistant Services within the office of the Under Secretary of Veterans Affairs for Health as amended
• H.R. 3480- Let Our Veterans Rest In Peace Act of 2008- Directs the United States Sentencing Commission to assure appropriate punishment enhancements for those involved in receiving stolen property where that property consists of grave markers of veterans, and for other purposes.
“I recognize that this is a day to commemorate our veterans and to remember that it is because of them that we are able to continue to be a democratic nation. All Americans must realize that we own our liberty to those veterans who have served their nation 110% without fear. They deserve our assistance and support in every way possible. I have always and will continue to fight for legislation that protects our veterans,” concluded Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee.
