Broun's Four-Way Test
I am committed to protecting the constitutional rights and pocketbooks of every American. I will apply the following four-way test to every piece of legislation that comes before the House for a vote:

1) Is it Moral / Right?                 3) Is it Necessary?
2) Is it Constitutional?                4) Is it Affordable?

Securing our Borders and Stopping Illegal Immigration

Illegal immigration is one of the greatest threats facing our nation today, and I am fully committed to reversing this problem and ensuring the integrity of our nation’s borders. First, I believe our porous borders represent a significant national security threat. Some estimate that there are over 12 million illegal aliens are in the U.S. today, with thousands more crossing the border illegally each day. We currently have no way to identify and track these illegal entrants, and therefore no way to know which ones are terrorists and which ones are laborers seeking work. Homeland security is one of the fundamental responsibilities of the federal government, and we must act swiftly to address this growing problem.

America has a longstanding record of welcoming legal immigrants to our country, and this practice should continue. Illegal immigration, however, has had a dramatic negative impact on the quality of life of Americans today. There is a vast difference between legal and illegal immigration. Legal immigrants follow the rule of law, apply legally, and wait their turn to enter this great country. Others flagrantly break our laws by entering illegally, cut in line in front of those that patiently wait years to enter legally, and wreak havoc on our economic and social welfare system.

America’s workers have been displaced in their jobs by cheap illegal alien workers. Our schools are overcrowded and legally residing students have had their own education negatively impacted by bilingual education policies. Government services that are already stretched too thin, such as Medicaid and food assistance programs, are being exhausted. In areas heavily populated with illegal aliens, people must frequently wait several hours before being treated at the emergency room. Most illegal aliens do not pay taxes and are a significant drain on local and state governments.

I am adamantly opposed to any form of amnesty and will work to prevent the passage of any legislation that would provide a path to citizenship to illegal aliens. Illegal aliens and employers who hire them must be held accountable. Our nation is guided by a set of principles and we should not reward illegal behavior with any form of amnesty.

Our nation must secure the border, increase cooperation between state and federal law enforcement entities, eliminate public assistance for illegal aliens, require mandatory verification of employees’ legal status, and increase penalties for employers who hire illegal workers. I am committed to enacting real reform that addresses the heart of the ongoing problem of illegal immigration.
