Yesterday, the House Democratic Caucus re-elected Rep. James L. Oberstar (Minn.) as Chairman of the Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure. The full Caucus vote came after the House Democratic Steering Committee unanimously recommended him to the post earlier in the day.
“I am humbled and gratified by the honor my colleagues have given me. The T&I Committee accomplished a great deal in the 110th Congress, and we can do even better in the 111th Congress,” Oberstar said.
“When I became Chairman in January 2007, I pledged that the Committee’s agenda would center on three principles: Enhancing safety and security, investing in our infrastructure, and addressing the twin challenges of rising energy costs and global climate change. We passed major legislation to address these principles, but more needs to be done. Our nation faces serious challenges on many fronts, and I look forward to working with our subcommittee chairs and other members of the T&I Committee to get America moving in the right direction.”
Members of the 111th Congress will be sworn in on January 6, 2009.
