The 22nd District of Texas

Congressional District 22

The 22nd Congressional District of Texas is located in Southeast Texas and is comprised of parts of four different counties: Fort Bend, Brazoria, Galveston, and Harris. Neighboring and containing parts of Houston, the nation’s 4th largest city and energy capital, it is home to NASA’s Johnson Space Center, the San Jacinto Monument, Ellington Air Force Base, and the original Imperial Sugar Mill.

An estimated 790,000 people live in the 22nd District and includes a unique mix of large cities, smaller developing cities and towns. Since the 2003 mid-census redistricting, the 22nd District now includes part or all of the following cities within its borders: Houston, Stafford, Missouri City, Meadows Place, Needville, Richmond, Rosenberg, Friendswood, Pearland, Santa Fe, La Marque, League City, Nassau Bay, Pleak, Shoreacres, Arcola, Beasley, Brookside Village, El Lago, Taylor Lake Village, Texas City, Hitchcock, Deer Park, Pasadena, Seabrook, LaPorte, Sugar Land, Webster and others.

With the 22nd District’s significant rural areas in Fort Bend County, farming and ranching play a vital role in its economy. Transportation is also a top issue in the 22nd District, with major highways such as IH 59 and IH 45, Texas’ Highway 6 and Houston’s Beltway 8 experiencing increasing traffic due to rapid business expansions and population growth. Several cities and small towns in Fort Bend County thrive along one of Union Pacific’s main railroads, making rail a vital part of District 22.
