Brazoria County/Pearland

The northern section of Brazoria County comprises the central portion of District 22.  Brazoria County takes its name from the Brazos River, which flows through the county.  Pearland is Brazoria County’s largest city, and most of the city is within District 22. Established in 1893, the city was renamed Pearland due to an abundance of pear trees in the area.  Pearland’s population has grown steadily since the 1960’s and stands today at approximately 41,000.

According to 2000 census data, Pearland contains 13,192 households and 10,659 families residing in the city.  The average household size is 2.84 with an average family size of 3.17.  The median income for a Pearland household is $64,156 with the median income for a family at $70,748, with 4.7% of the population living below the poverty line.  Pearland’s largest employer is the Pearland Independent School District, which employs 1800 residents, followed by Wal-Mart, which employs 800 people.

Brazoria County and the city of Pearland occupy an important part in the history of Texas.  Their continuing growth means that they will remain an influential portion of the State of Texas and the 22nd Congressional District for years to come.  I am honored to serve this great community.
