LAMPSON RECEIVES 'GUARDIAN OF SMALL BUSINESS' AWARD FROM NFIB

WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 24, 2008)- U.S. Rep. Nick Lampson, D-Stafford, today received the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) Guardian of Small Business Award for his strong voting record and his efforts to increase business opportunities, reduce taxes, and eliminate overly burdensome taxes  in the 110th Congress.

"As a former small business owner, I understand the hardships entrepreneurs face every day.  Easing tax and bureaucratic burdens on small businesses allows them to grow, create jobs, and strengthen our economy," said Lampson.  "Small businesses embody the American spirit and form the backbone of our nation, and I am proud to stand with them every day."

The Guardian of Small Business Award is given based on Key Votes identified by the NFIB based on polling of its members nationwide.  Members of Congress who vote in line with these Key Votes at least 70% of the time and have demonstrated consistent support for small business receive the awards at the end of each Congress.

Rep. Lampson supported several Key Votes identified by the NFIB such as the Business Administration Entrepreneurial Development Programs Act of 2007 (H.R. 2359)This legislation addressed a primary concern of small business owners by providing relief from overly burdensome federal regulations.  It also allows the Small Business Administration Office of Advocacy to petition federal agencies to review rules that present substantial bureaucratic problems to small businesses.

Rep. Lampson stated, "Thanks to small businesses, Houston's economy remains strong and Southeast Texas is one of the fastest-growing areas in the nation.  By working together, we can ensure that their vital contributions keep growing."
