Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) was elected by his colleagues in the Democratic Caucus of the U.S. House of Representatives to serve as a Regional Whip during the 111th Congress.  Elected by acclamation, Congressman Cohen will serve in a leadership position in just his second term as the Representative from Tennessee’s 9th District.

Congressman Cohen Announces $10,000 Award for Opera Memphis

Washington, DC – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today announced that Opera Memphis, Inc. received a grant in the amount of $10,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).  This funding will support the performances of “Scott Joplin and Treemonisha,” a new adaptation of Scott Joplin’s only opera.

Congressman Cohen Receives Humanitarian Award in Madrid

Washington, DC – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) today received the D. Emilio Castelar Work Recognition Award in Madrid, Spain, from the Vida Foundation, a non-governmental organization that promotes environmental protection and human rights.  Congressman Cohen was one of only two Americans to receive the award, and he was recognized for his work on passing H. Res 194, a resolution calling upon the House of Representatives to formally apologize for the enslavement and segregation of African-Americans.

Congressman Cohen: National Mall Will Be Open to the Public on Inauguration Day

Washington, DC – In keeping with its pledge to make the inauguration of President-elect Barack Obama one of the most open and accessible in history, the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) announced today that, for the first time, the entire length of the National Mall will be opened to the public so that more people than ever before will be able to witness the swearing-in of the President from a vantage point in sight of the Capitol.

Memphis, TN – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-09) will deliver meals for MIFA today, Wed., November 26, at 10:00 AM.  Congressman Cohen joined with Ridley Anderson, Director of MIFA Meals; Sally Heinz, Vice President of Development for MIFA; and Elizabeth Garrett, Vice President of Public Relations for MIFA, to highlight the need for for more volunteers and donations in the wake of the economic crisis.
