Highlights the need to extend unemployment benefits to those hardest hit by weak economy
Portland, ME (Friday, November 7, 2008)--U.S. Representative Tom Allen issued the following statement today in advance of Congress reconvening to consider another economic stimulus package.
“For the tenth consecutive month, record job losses have been sustained across the United States. Unemployment is now at its highest level in 14 years. I remain committed to offering the American people another stimulus package which the Congress will consider in the coming weeks to provide additional unemployment benefits and make fundamental investments in our infrastructure. As I travel across Maine, it is starkly evident that our roads and highways need a major revitalization. Undertaking such efforts will spur job creation and provide an essential boost to middle class families.”
