U.S. Representative Tom Allen earns "A+" from the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America

Allen recognized for his staunch support of expanded health care, educational opportunities for veterans

Portland, ME (Monday, October 27, 2008)--U.S. Representative Tom Allen today received an “A+” from the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America for his steadfast support of their legislative agenda.  Allen was cited for his early co-sponsorship of the new post-9/11 GI bill, the IAVA’s top priority in 2008.

“I am pleased to receive such high markings from the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America.  I am particularly proud of my work across party lines as a co-sponsor of the post-9/11GI bill which will provide expanded educational assistance to members of the Armed Services who have served at least three months of active duty since September 11, 2001,” said Rep. Allen.  “This will include activated reservists and members of the National Guard.”

As a senior member of the House Budget Committee, Rep. Allen helped craft the largest funding increase in the history of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Founded in June 2004, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America is the nation's first and largest group dedicated to the troops and veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the civilian supporters of those troops and veterans.
