Rep. Tom Allen Announces Two Federal Highway Grants to Repair Maine’s Flood Damage

“The torrential rains of this year and last took a heavy toll on Maine’s roads”

Portland, Maine (Thursday, October 23, 2008)—U.S. Representative Tom Allen today announced that the State of Maine has been awarded two U.S. Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration (FHA) grants to repair and restore Federal-aid highways, roads and related infrastructure damaged by heavy rains and flooding. A grant of $2,558,500 will be used to pay for repairs of damage suffered beginning on April 28, 2008; a grant of $301,135 will be used to pay the increased project costs of repairs of damage that occurred April 15 to 16, 2007.

“The torrential rains of this year and last took a heavy toll on Maine’s roads,” said Rep. Allen. “These federal funds will pay for repair of some of the worst damage.”

Counties with eligible damage arising from the heavy rains and flooding in April, 2008 include Aroostook, Knox, Lincoln, Penobscot, Piscataquis, Somerset and Waldo. The eligible projects for the April, 2007 funding are in Androscoggin, Cumberland, Franklin, Kennebec, Knox, Lincoln, Oxford, Sagadahoc, Somerrset, Waldo and York Counties.
