Heller Statement on Auto Bailout

December 10, 2008

(Washington, DC) – Today U.S. Congressman Dean Heller (R-NV) made the following statement on the Auto Industry Financing and Restructuring Act (H.R. 7321).

“Another month, another bailout.  Congress is asking the American people again to bailout another industry in these tough economic times.  Congress should focus on real economic reforms that generate jobs instead of continuing to bailout individual industries with taxpayer dollars.  This is nothing more than a band aid that does not fix the much larger economic problems we have in our country.

After half a million Americans have lost their jobs last month, it is unreasonable for Congress to ask American taxpayers to bailout the auto industry.  This action today does not set these companies on the path to sustainability and will delay much needed reforms in the U.S. auto industry,” said Heller.
