Cantor: "Democrat Budget Does Nothing to Fix Washington or Help Middle-Class Families"

Democrat Budget Proposal Assumes Scheduled Additional Average Tax Increase of $2,000 Per Middle Class Family

WASHINGTON, DC - House Chief Deputy Republican Whip Eric Cantor, member of the House Committee on Ways and Means, today issued the following statement while the House and Senate worked through committee mark-up sessions of the Democrat’s Budget legislation:

“House and Senate Democrats are united in their attempt to continue their empty rhetoric professing fiscal responsibility and their desire to help middle-class Americans. However, the reality is that Democrats – in action and intent– continue with their old DC dinosaur ways of taxing and spending at the expense of middle-class American families who cry out for change and transformation in their representative government.

“Today we’ve seen more of the same from Congressional Democrats with the arrival of their budget proposal which assumes scheduled tax increases to the tune of $683 Billion, which translates to an additional average tax increase of $2,000 per middle class family per year. Their proposal also plans for even more increased spending coupled with a dangerous lack of reform of their pre-existing wasteful and rampant entitlement spending. As if that’s not enough, their proposal will also raise the national debt this year by $646 Billion, the largest annual increase in the debt in history.

“It’s time to make Washington work again for Americans, rather than the other way around. Given the current economic climate, Congress must ensure that this year’s budget proposal doesn’t fight our goals of making the economy strong and competitive. We must ensure that Democrats won’t spend our way into deep debt and we certainly must ensure that it doesn’t harm millions of American families with such burdensome and unnecessary tax increases.”
