Isaac Hayes Honored By the House
Blackburn / Cohen Resolution Honoring Legendary Memphian

Rep. Blackburn With Isaac Hayes

Washington, Sep 17 - Rep. Marsha Blackburn (TN-7) and Rep. Steve Cohen (TN-9) were gratified at the passage of H.Res. 1425 which honored the life and achievements of Memphis music great Isaac Hayes.

“Mr. Speaker, it is my great honor to share Memphis Tennessee with Steve Cohen. We are honored to represent its people and its proud traditions. Memphis has contributed so much to our state and to this country. Perhaps their greatest contribution has been the unique ‘Memphis Sound.’ The 'Memphis Sound' really is the soundtrack for America. It captures the rhythm of the region as well as the hopes, frustrations, and aspirations of so many. We stand on the floor today to celebrate the life of the man who gave that music its soul, Isaac Hayes.”

Congressman Cohen, who knew Hayes well, stated:

“Isaac Hayes was a great man, a man born into humble circumstances who was beloved around the world for his talent and generosity, who never forgot where he came from as he rose to great professional heights. Isaac’s kindness and good heart were legendary, his mellifluous voice not only graced records, television and film but was filled with genuine warmth when greeting his family, friends and fans. Isaac was with us for too short a time but few have left a greater mark on the world than he did. Isaac Hayes was my friend and my supporter and I will never forget him.”
