Congress
Chairwoman
Made History as First Woman to Chair Powerful Committee
Washington, DC - Last night House Democrats overwhelmingly re-nominated Rep. Louise
M. Slaughter (D-NY-28) by acclamation to a second term as Chairwoman of the
powerful House Rules Committee.
"I'm
honored to have the opportunity to serve a second term as the Chair of the
Rules Committee," Chairwoman Louise M. Slaughter
said. "Our nation faces grave challenges and Democrats are committed
to strengthening our economy, fixing our broken health care system and
investing in a clean energy future. I look forward to working with
Congress and President-elect Obama to get America back on track."
House
Speaker Nancy Pelosi re-nominated Chairwoman Slaughter to serve as Rules
Committee Chair and she was immediately confirmed by her colleagues by
acclamation. Her position will be formalized when the 111th
Congress convenes on January 3rd. Slaughter became Chair of the
Rules Committee in 2006 and is the first woman to serve in this role.
