Resources for Educators

Given the tremendous amount of resources available for students online, I have worked with the Office of the Clerk and the Government Printing Office to share with educators some of the printouts available online.  Please feel free to download, print and use this material as needed.  Additionally, I have included a pamphlet with information regarding the 2007 - 2008 school year for High School educators.

CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION

Important Dates

May 5, 2008
Deadline for artwork to be submitted to one of Congressman Blackburn's district offices.

May 12, 2008
7th District winner announced.

Each year my office sponsors a district wide art competition for all interested high school students. Any high school student living or attending school in the 7th District of Tennessee is eligible to participate in An Artistic Discovery, a national competition hosted by the U.S. House of Representatives.

A panel of judges selects the 7th District winner, and the first place artwork is sent to Washington, DC to be displayed in the United States Capitol. In addition, one national winner will be selected from all of the congressional district entries to receive a $12,000 scholarship to attend the Savannah College of Art. Donated airfare will also be provided for more than 100 of the selected winners throughout the United States to attend the reception and opening ceremony of An Artistic Discovery. Please contact one of my district offices for additional information.

THE CONGRESSIONAL AWARD

Since 1979, the Congressional Award has been encouraging and recognizing the achievement, initiative, and service of America's youth. Through the Congressional Award, the U.S. Congress continues to challenge youth ages 14-23 in four program areas—Volunteer Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, Expedition and Exploration. Each area has guidelines and achievement levels to acknowledge the progress of the students. Participants earn Bronze, Silver and Gold Congressional Award Certificates and Bronze, Silver and Gold Congressional Award Medals. Aside from the age limits, the Congressional Award has no time limitations, is open to all students and has no minimum grade requirements.  For more information, visit the Congressional Award website at www.congressionalaward.org.
