Taxes and Spending
Marsha Blackburn believes that Americans, not the government, are the best stewards of their money. Everyday she fights against the notion that Washington has a right of first refusal on your paycheck. Keeping taxes and spending low is the best route to American prosperity.
The taxes that are in place should be fair for all Americans. Congressman Blackburn made bringing tax fairness back to Tennessee her priority when she came to Washington in 2003, pledging to restore tax equity for states that do not have an income tax. She fought for and won reimplementation of sales tax deductibility for Tennesseans, a provision that has been restored every year since. As a result, taxpayers have the same right to deduct state taxes from their income taxes as those who pay a state income tax. Blackburn believes that basic tax fairness for Tennessee should be a permanent provision of the tax code, and remains dedicated to winning this critical legislative change.
