Academy Nominations

Prospective high school applicants residing in the Fifteenth District who are seeking a Congressional nomination to one of the U.S. Service Academies should contact Weldon’s district to initiate a file.

Basic Eligibility: Each applicant for a nomination must meet the following eligibility requirements as of 1 July of the year of admission to an academy:

Age: Be at least 17, but not have passed the 23rd birthday.

Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Marital status: Be unmarried, not pregnant, and have no legal obligation to support children or other dependents.

Residence: Must be a legal resident of the 15th Congressional District.

General Admission Standards:

The five academies consider evidence of character, scholarship, leadership, physical aptitude, medical fitness, goals and motivation in determining each nominee's "whole person" evaluation.

* Appointments to the United States Coast Guard Academy are based on a nationwide competitive examination. Inquiries should be made directly to the Director of Admission, USCGA, New London, CT 06320.
