Vinton

Throughout this past year, Congressman Space has fought to provide economic development not only for Vinton County, but also for the entire region. Listed below you will find some of the projects that will make a significant impact on the lives of residents living in Vinton County:

  • Listening to Community Concerns – In April of last year, Congressman Space held a Development Infrastructure town hall meeting in McArthur to hear the community’s concerns about bringing businesses and jobs to the region.
  • Investing in Clean Drinking Water – Congressman Space fought to secure a $196,400 grant for the Arbaugh-Hope Water Project to install 36,000 feet of water lines, extending service to 30 homes and the Eckerd Youth Facility. This will provide a safe, reliable, and affordable source of drinking water for area residents.
  • Saving the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) – Congressman Space worked in Congress to reverse drastic proposed budget cuts for the ARC. The Commission has been an economic engine since President John F. Kennedy set in motion its creation in the 1960s. In fact, in 2007 Congress actually increased the ARC funding to $73 million, the first increase in nearly a decade.

Congressman Space pledges to continue working to ensure that the 18th District receives the support necessary to spur economic growth, maintain a functional infrastructure, and meet the needs of residents.
