Harrison

Throughout this past year, Congressman Space has fought to provide economic development not only for Harrison County, but also for the entire region. Listed below you will find some of the projects that will make a significant impact on the lives of residents living in Harrison County:

  • Listening to Community Farmers – Congressman Space visited Cadiz in February of last year during his Farm Tour, where he heard the concerns of local farmers regarding sheep, beef, and a potential ethanol plant in the area.
  • Learning about the State of Health Care – Last August, Congressman Space visited Harrison Community Hospital on a hospital tour. He learned that rural, acute care hospitals often represent the only access to hospital care available to the entire county and face unique obstacles as a result.
  • Repairing Worn-Out Infrastructure – Congressman Space secured $980,000 in funds for ODOT to repair Harrison County Road 29. This funding will bring long-overdue investment to our vital transportation infrastructure and keep tenants in the industrial park.
  • Saving the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) – Congressman Space worked in Congress to reverse drastic proposed budget cuts for the ARC. The Commission has been an economic engine since President John F. Kennedy set in motion its creation in the 1960s. In fact, in 2007 Congress actually increased the ARC funding to $73 million, the first increase in nearly a decade.

Congressman Space pledges to continue working to ensure that the 18th District receives the support necessary to spur economic growth, maintain a functional infrastructure, and meet the needs of residents.
