CASEWORK - VETERAN'S FAQ & BENEFIT INFORMATION

As your Congressman, my office is ready and willing to help you on a number of issues, including casework needs, appointments to the U.S. military academies, tours in Washington, D.C., internships, and finding grants.

CASEWORK

I may be able to help you resolve problems or answer questions about federal departments, agencies, or services. My district staff will help you with a number of issues to the extent that they are able.

I am able to provide assistance to you if:

1.  You are a resident of North Carolina’s 11th Congressional District, (Buncombe, Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, Macon, Madison, McDowell, Polk, Rutherford (partial), Swain, Transylvania, or Yancey County)

 AND

2.  You are having difficulty with a department or agency of the federal government.

Please remember that while my staff and I are available to assist you, we cannot force a federal agency to decide an issue in your favor or overturn a final decision.

Additionally, my staff and I are prohibited from giving legal advice or intervening in legal proceedings and cannot aid you in a lawsuit or litigation.

For problems with local or state government, you will need to contact your North Carolina State Representative, State Senator, or local government official.

What my staff and I need from you:

Once you have established that your case involves a department or agency of the federal government, my staff will need the following information before we can review your case or contact an agency on your behalf:

1. A clear letter summarizing the subject on which you need assistance and your expectations of the outcome you desire. Your letter should include all of your contact information: mailing address, home phone, work phone, cell phone, and e-mail address so my staff can contact you, if necessary. 

2. A completed Privacy Act Release form to grant your consent for my office to contact a federal agency on your behalf. Download a PDF here.

3. Please, be sure to include any identification numbers, such as your Social Security number, case file numbers, and date of birth, that will be necessary to assist with your casework

You should submit this information to one of my district offices via fax or mail.
