Congressional Arts Competition
This competition gives high school students throughout the country an opportunity to submit artwork to be judged in local arts competitions in their districts. The winner of the competition from each congressional district is honored at a ceremony in Washington D.C. and their work is exhibited for one year in the Cannon pedestrian tunnel leading to the U.S. Capital. As you may know, this prominent location is frequented daily by congressional leaders, statesmen and tourists from around the world. This is a great opportunity for young artists to showcase their talents. For more information please call 303-650-7820 and ask for Carter or Heather or email heather.fox@mail.house.gov.
Financial Aid Seminar
I hear from many families who are concerned about paying for a college education for their children. Few seem to be fully aware of the resources available to help. That is why I hold an annual Financial Aid Seminar. In past years, I have gathered a group of panelists that include representatives from the Colorado Student Loan Program, the U.S. Department of Education, the Director of Financial Aid at the University of Colorado, and high school counselors. Eighth graders, high school students, college students and their families are all invited to attend. For more information call 303-650-7820 and ask for Heather or email heather.fox@mail.house.gov.
Academy Nominations
Every year, a select number of young men and women from Colorado seek to serve their country by attending one of the nation’s service academies. The admissions process for these schools is different than that of most other colleges. Even before undergoing the academies’ rigorous selection process, interested applicants must first receive a nomination from their U.S. Representative or one of their two U.S. Senators. The four academies that obtain their cadets and midshipmen through the congressional nomination process are: the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado; the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York; the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York; and the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
