Reaffirms Commitment to Balanced and Robust Space and Aeronautics Program
(Washington, DC) – Congressman Mark Udall (D-Eldorado Springs) released the following statement following the enactment of his bill, H.R. 6063, which will reauthorize the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for fiscal year 2009. On October 15, the President signed the bill into law, following its passage in both the House and the Senate in late September. Congressman Udall is the Chairman of the House Science and Technology Committee’s Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics, which has jurisdiction over NASA.
“I am very pleased to see my bill to reauthorize NASA become law this week – a bipartisan bill that shows what Congress can achieve when we work across partisan divisions. NASA has done much to advance our understanding of our universe and our own planet, as well as contribute to our economic competitiveness in industries ranging from aeronautics to telecommunications. My bill will help continue the leadership of the United States in civil space programs, strengthening our economy and our national security.”
“This bill is good for the country and good for Colorado. Almost 60,000 Coloradans work in the aerospace industry and this is a growing industry with high paying jobs for our state – something that is especially critical in these times of economic difficulty.”
