(Westminster, Co) – U.S. Senator-elect Mark Udall released the following statement after the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced today that Denver’s Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company has been selected for a $1.09 billion contract to build two spacecraft for NOAA’s next generation geostationary satellite series:
“This is exciting news for Lockheed Martin and Colorado. Nearly 60,000 Coloradans work in the aerospace industry. This is a growing industry that will continue to benefit our state, boost our economy and make us more competitive nationally. Not only will these satellites provide more jobs in Colorado, but they will greatly enhance our ability to monitor and forecast the nation’s weather, which will benefit all of our citizens.”
As a U.S. House Representative, Mark Udall serves as Chairman on the Committee on Science Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee.
