Congressional Page Program

Congressional Page PhotoGeneral Information
The Congressional Page Program offers a unique opportunity for high school students to learn about Congress and the legislative process.  While sponsored by a single Member, Pages work on the House Floor helping all Members of Congress.  Pages, who are paid a monthly salary and live at the supervised Page Residence Hall near the Capitol, serve in either a summer session or a school-year semester session.  When serving as a school-year Page, students also attend the House Page School to continue their academic studies.  More details regarding the Page Program can be found at http://pageprogram.house.gov/.

Eligibility
Applicants must:

  • Be at least 16 years of age at the time their appointment begins.   School-year program applicants may only serve for one semester during their junior year of high school. Summer program applicants may only serve during the summer before or the summer after their junior year of high school.
  • Have a cumulative grade point average of "B" (3.0 or 80/100) or better in the five major subjects. The subject areas are: English, Science, Mathematics, Social Studies and Foreign Language.   Electives are not included.  An official transcript is required as part of the application.
  • Be a U.S. citizen.
  • May not be related to a Member of Congress.
  • Be able to walk considerable distances in a day; carry and deliver packages up to 25 pounds; answer phones and speak fluent English.

Please keep in mind that Pages are employees of the U.S. House of Representatives and are an important part of the legislative process. Before making your decision to become a Page, it is important that you understand that all family activities, as well as school and community activities, which would interrupt your Page school and/or work activities, must be put on hold until you are no longer a Page.  Pages will not be permitted to return home to attend family reunions, family trips, or school activities such as conferences, sports events, proms, etc., if they occur during the work week

Application Process:
Pages are nominated by their Member of Congress (if eligible to nominate for the upcoming Page Program session) and appointed by the House Leaders.

In addition to the application form, the following items are required:

  •     Social Security Number
  •     A signed parental consent form
  •     A 250 -300 word essay on why you want to become a Republican Page
  •     A resume of extra-curricular activities
  •     Three letters of recommendation, including one from a current teacher
