MCNERNEY DELIVERS HOLIDAY CARDS TO SOLDIERS AT WALTER REED, BETHESDA NAVAL

Over 9,000 cards received this year, McNerney reports

December 11, 2008

Washington, D.C. – This morning, Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-11) delivered holiday cards to soldiers recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and to sailors and marines at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD.  The cards were received from residents throughout the 11th district as part of Rep. McNerney’s second annual “Holiday Cards for Our Troops” program.

Next week, Rep. McNerney will stop by the Parks Reserve Forces Training Area in Dublin to deliver cards to National Guard and Reserve soldiers.

The “Holiday Cards for Our Troops” program has been an enormous success this year as over 9,000 cards have been received from families, individuals and school children from across the 11th district.  That’s nearly 13 times the number of cards received last year.

“I was amazed when I found out that we’d received more than 9,000 cards this year,” Rep. McNerney said.  “And the fact that so many people from our region took the time out to write messages of thanks to our soldiers is encouraging.  It’s this kind of effort that will help make a difference in the lives of the men and women who have served our nation.”

“I’d like to thank everyone who participated in the holiday card program and especially the troops who have sacrificed greatly for our country,” Rep. McNerney continued.

This is the second consecutive year that Rep. McNerney has asked his constituents to participate in the “Holiday Cards for Our Troops” program.  For a sample of some of the cards that Rep. McNerney delivered to troops returning from overseas, please visit the following link: http://mcnerney.house.gov/holidaycards_2008.shtml.
