Second Amendment

Second Amendment

"A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
                                                        -
Second Amendment, The Constitution of United States

Second amendment rights are very important to the First District of Georgia and the Nation as a whole.

I am a strong supporter of the right to bear arms and believe that all gun control legislation should be carefully written, researched, and implemented as to not interfere with Constitutional rights. The Second Amendment gives Americans the right to own firearms and as I have always said - guns don’t kill people, people kill people. Criminals will attain guns whether they are legal or illegal. Today in Great Britain, handguns and semi-automatic center-fire rifles are completely banned; however, Great Britain’s crime rate remains steady.

In addition, a report from the Congressional Research Service showed that guns have been used in only 1-2% of violent crime in the United States. More then 20 times as many murders a year have been committed with knives, clubs or bare hands; the majority of violent crimes committed from 2005 to 2007 did not involve a gun.

I will continue to fight to preserve our rights as American citizens to own firearms. If you have any future comments or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me again.  To do so, click here or call one of my offices.
