Big 3 Automakers Testify Before Congress
This week, the Chief Executive Officers of Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors testified before Congress on the challenges facing the automobile industry.

On Thursday, the heads of the companies appeared before the Senate Banking Committee.  They testified before the House Financial Services Committee today.

The Detroit automakers are requesting $34 billion in federal assistance.  Chrysler is looking for a $7 billion loan, while Ford is asking for a $9 billion line of credit.  General Motors seeks $18 billion in total support, $12 billion in loans and a $6 billion line of credit.

Other House members, back in their home states, await Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision whether to reconvene next week to consider legislation affecting the industry and an additional “stimulus” package.

On Monday, Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen met with residents of the New Seasons Assisted Living Center in Mt. Arlington. Frelinghuysen was welcomed by Diana Molimock, Director of Community Relations.  He spoke with the group about his work in Congress and about the issues facing northern New Jersey and the nation.

“I am always eager to meet with residents of the 11th District.  Their input is vital to my work in Congress,” said Frelinghuysen.  “I thank the residents of New Seasons Assisted Living for inviting me to be with them today.”

Today, Rep. Frelinghuysen visited Novartis U.S Headquarters in East Hanover, New Jersey.  Employees at Novartis have been conducting a holiday food drive in coordination with the Health Care Institute of New Jersey.

“Charitable events like food drives are so important for a community, especially during this holiday season,” said Frelinghuysen.  “I applaud the employees of Novartis for remembering their neighbors.”

More Accolades for Picatinny Arsenal
Today, Picatinny Arsenal announced that one of their weapons-development teams has been honored with a “Top Five Department of Defense (DoD) Program Award” by the DoD.  The team was recognized for its work on the 120 mm Dismounted Mortar Fire Control System.

“I congratulate Picatinny Arsenal on winning this prestigious award.  This honor is yet another tribute to the great work of the 4200 men and women at Picatinny who work everyday to provide for our warfighters,” said Frelinghuysen.  “I am proud of the work done at Picatinny, and this honor is well deserved.  I congratulate ARDEC Director Dr. Joseph Lannon, Brigadier General William Phillips, and the entire Picatinny workforce on their success.”
