On Friday, Gus attended the change of central Command ceremony at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa. Lt. General Martin Dempsey relinquished command to General David H. Petraeus, formerly commander of Multi-National Force - Iraq.

General David Petraeus assumed command of CENTCOM after most recently serving as Commander Multi-National Forces-Iraq, where he oversaw all Coalition forces from February 2007 to September 2008. He is most noted for his contribution to the stabilization of Iraq during surge operations in mid-2007. 

Secretary of Defense, Dr. Robert M. Gates presided over the ceremony. Also participating in Friday’s ceremony was Adm. Mike Mullen, Chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
