Ben's Guide to U.S. Government for Kids provides learning tools for K-12 students, parents, and teachers. These resources will teach how our government works, the use of the primary source materials of GPO Access, and how one can use GPO Access to carry out their civic responsibilities. And, just as GPO Access provides locator services to U.S. Government sites, Ben's Guide provides a similar service to U.S. Government Web sites developed for kids.

House of Representatives Educational Resources.  This website maintained by the U.S. House of Representatives explains the legislation process and also has information on historical documents such as the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence.

Kids in the House is an educational site for kids, parents and teachers. Kids can learn about Congress, the federal government and lawmaking. Download free lesson plans and play games.


White House Kid's Home Page.  America's presidents have represented many states, held different occupations and faced difficult challenges. However, each president answered the same call--the call to serve the American people. As you learn about the presidents, think about ways you can serve your neighbor, community or country today. 

The U.S. Capitol.  The United States Capitol in Washington, D.C., is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. It has housed the meeting chambers of the Senate and the House of Representatives for almost two centuries. Begun in 1793, the Capitol has been built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored; today, it stands as a monument not only to its builders but also to the American people and their government.

Smithsonian Institution.  The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum complex and research organization.  Visit the Smithsonian and you will see why it represents for so many the treasured icons of our past, the vibrant art of the present, and the scientific promise of the future.  

National Zoo Just for Kids.  The National Zoo is a beautiful urban park offering family fun and excitement, stimulating education programs, and a peaceful place to enjoy nature. There is something new to discover on every visit.
