Congressman Tim Ryan's Blog | Posting Detail | Print |

Special Session in November

Congress has reconvened for a brief moment, with the focus being the current crisis in the American auto industry. Before I explain my stance, I'd like to congratulate some of my colleagues. Today, we will be swearing in Congresswoman-elect Marcia Fudge (OH-11), who will occupy the seat vacated by my dear friend, the late Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones. I look forward to working with Marcia in the 111th Congress to move Ohio forward.
In addition, I would like to congratulate the newly elected leadership for the Democratic Majority:

Speaker of the House: Nancy Pelosi of California
Majority Leader: Steny Hoyer of Maryland
Majority Whip: James E. Clyburn of South Carolina
Democratic Caucus Chairman: John B. Larson of Connecticut
Democratic Caucus Vice Chairman: Xavier Becerra of California
Assistant to the Speaker and Chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee: Chris Van Hollen of Maryland

Last week, I authored a letter to Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Hoyer expressing the urgency to help American automakers. We need to ensure stability and stimulate growth in our domestic auto industry. With 5 million American jobs at stake, we can't afford to look the other way. In my district, the local GM plant in Lordstown is looking at laying off 1,060 employees. Government intervention will provide an opportunity for these automakers to develop advanced fuel efficient cars and renew American interest in buying domestic.

I will keep you posted as this session continues…

25 billion would be a close figure or estimate since GM is heavly spending our money in China and should use more of our working class Americans to give them more spending capital. Please just give every American 25,000 cash so we can purchase a GM product and then they will be working and hopfully keeping thier employees on the job instead of investing more money on robots. Please think about just giving the home owners about 200,000 each so they can pay off their mortgage and the banks will be up to date and profitible.

Giving a helping hand to the hourly autoworkers and the others that would be affected by the slumping economy would be fine , just let the management not receive one red cent of American taxpayer money after all we worked hard for it and don't live in multi-million dollar homes and get to fly around in private jets , make the auto industry sell off that kind of stuff and have the ceo on down take pay cuts to $100,00.00 or less as a sign that they want the companies they work for to survive or are they to good for that if so let them go on without our money after all I would hate for another mistake like wall street to happen ; there should have been a ton of oversight for those crooks as well as pay cuts and cuts in benefits .I sincerley hope that every decision you make that you think of all the hard working American people that voted for you I know the biggest part of us are not rich and we live paycheck to paycheck but all these rich idiots that the government keeps bailing out just so that they can continue there extravagant lifestyles and make fun of us working class humans really hits us the wrong way , after all they put their pants on one leg at a time like the rest of us the only real difference is that most of us poorer people are genuinley honest and they are crooks looking for any loophole to take advantage of anyone and that should be stopped and now seems like a good time .

You are faced with a difficult decision,
we need the Lordstown plant ! However nobody
needs Rick Wagoner and his boys, and GM will
not win with these fat losers.
Support the loan, support Lordstown, DO NOT
SUPPORT WAGONER. Ask that he leaves!!!

Good Luck,
Richard

It is time for government to stay out of the failers of big business. You give these companys our money over and over again so they can take jobs over seas or file bankrupcy. Didn't you learn any thing from the delphi mess. I have. Big business is greedy and does not care about the working family. If a small business fails no one cares. If a household fails no cares. But if the auto industry, airlines, investment firms fail we should bail them out. This is wrong. Bail out the family of 4 living pay check to pay check. Let them use the money to buy a home, car,or invest. Why should only a select few get help? The time is now to help the people.
