Congressional Art Competition

Each year, congressional offices may participate in the Congressional Art Competition, "An Artistic Discovery."  This nationwide competition provides an excellent opportunity to showcase the talent of high school students and acknowledge our nation's gifted young adults.

Since the competition was created in 1982, high school students from across the nation have been able to participate in expressing their creativity artistically.  The winning entries from last year's successful competition currently hang in the Cannon Tunnel at the Capitol Building in Washington, DC.  This remarkable exhibit represents the combined efforts of the Members of Congress who conducted their local contests and the students who participated.

I invite each high school student that lives in the 19th Congressional District to compete.  If you are unsure if you reside in the 19th Congressional District, please call my toll free number at (888) 763-1611 and one of my staff members will be able to assist you.

For more information, please contact Erin Dimas in my Abilene office at (325) 675-9779 or you can send her an e mail by clicking HERE. You may also visit the competition's website by clicking HERE.

The winner for 2008, whose artwork will be hanging in the Capitol, is Allison Ward. Her painting is titled "Cowboy Boots" and can be viewed directly below.

The runner up was Eric Simpson with his impressive painting entitled,  "West Texas Impression with a Dali Twist." Please scroll down to view this fantastic artwork that will be displayed in my Congressional office in Washington, DC.
