NEUGEBAUER: CONGRESS CANNOT PUT ADDITIONAL STRAIN ON AMERICAN TAXPAYERS

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Randy Neugebauer issued the following statement regarding the auto rescue package:

“Congress cannot allow the auto industry to collapse, but I do not believe we should lend taxpayer dollars to companies that the private sector is hesitant to lend to.

“In these difficult economic times, Congress has been tasked with acting in the best interest of the American taxpayers. Unfortunately, this $15 billion dollar auto bailout package is flawed. I cannot support legislation that promotes the auto industry’s dependency on government assistance and puts blind faith in one individual within the government to review all decisions made by the companies, as well as override decisions they may make.

“Congress should not choose winners and losers among those industries receiving federal assistance. Instead, Congress should focus on solutions that empower individuals and businesses to succeed in the economy, rather than solutions that make them more dependent on the federal government.”
