San Joaquin River Settlement

San Joaquin River Settlement

The San Joaquin River Restoration Settlement is a precedent setting Settlement to an eighteen year legal battle over the San Joaquin River, between the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Friant Water Users Authority, and the Federal Government.  The dual goals of the Settlement are the Restoration Goal and Water Management Goal.  Intended to both restore the river channel in preparation for increased water flows and the reintroduction of salmon, and to recapture and re-circulate as much water back to the water users as possible.   It has been my highest priority to usher the implementing legislation for the San Joaquin River Restoration Settlement through Congress.  At stake is water supply certainty for the farmers and water users of the San Joaquin Valley, and I believe the Settlement is the only viable alternative to a destructive judicial ruling.
