Shelby Announces Nearly $2 Million for Alabama’s First Responders

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency will release $1,911,349 to local fire departments and emergency medical services organizations in the state of Alabama.
“Firefighters are in the field everyday protecting our citizens,” said Shelby. “We must ensure that our local emergency responders have the resources to fully protect our communities. Our fire departments will use this important grant to fund operations and safety programs and purchase much needed vehicles.”
The funding is provided through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program (AFGP), which will distribute $500 million in direct federal assistance this year to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations nationwide.
