Washington, D.C. -

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration (EDA) will release $159,000 to the West Alabama Regional Commission.  This funding will be used to develop and implement a comprehensive economic strategy that will support capital investment and job creation in the region.

“We must do all we can to help strengthen economies of the various regions in Alabama,” said Shelby.  “This funding will assist in bringing together government entities and businesses so that they can work toward a stronger economy for West Alabama.”

The West Alabama Regional Commission is comprised of Bibb, Fayette, Greene, Hale, Lamar, Pickens, and Tuscaloosa counties.
