Shelby Announces $26,125 for Bethel East Volunteer Fire Department

December 5, 2008

Washington, D.C. -

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Homeland Security will release $26,125 to the Bethel East Volunteer Fire Department in Randolph County.  The funding is provided through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program.

“Firefighters are in the field everyday protecting our citizens,” said Shelby.  “We have a responsibility to ensure that our first responders are adequately prepared to respond to any event, should one occur. The Bethel East Volunteer Fire Department will use this funding to improve and sustain its operations and safety programs.”

The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded these funds as a part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This program will distribute $500 million in direct federal assistance this year to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations nationwide.
