Shelby Announces $31,322 for Fowlers Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department

December 5, 2008

Washington, D.C. -

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Homeland Security will release $31,322 to the Fowlers Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department in Fayette County.  The funding is provided through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program.

“Fowlers Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department will use this grant to fund its operations and safety programs,” said Shelby. “First responders serve day in and day out on the front lines to protect our communities.  This grant will help Fowlers Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department continue its efforts to ensure the safety of the community.”

The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded these funds as a part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This program will distribute $500 million in direct federal assistance this year to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations nationwide.
