Shelby Announces $200,000 for Wallace State Community College

February 5, 2008

Washington, D.C. -

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) will award $200,000 to Wallace State Community College for the Health Tech: Preparing the Healthcare Workforce of the Future Project.  This project will equip health programs with medical equipment to train future healthcare workers, resulting in 250 students receiving training and 225 students obtaining employment upon graduation.

“It is critical that graduates of Alabama’s colleges and universities who are entering the healthcare workforce have the skills and training needed to address the demands of our nation’s healthcare industry,” said Shelby.  “Wallace State Community College will use this grant to provide its teachers and students access to the most up-to-date medical equipment and training options available in the healthcare field.”

In addition to ARC funds, the total expected project cost of $603,275 includes $403,275 from other federal and local sources.
