Shelby Announces $100,000 for City of Henagar

February 5, 2008

Washington, D.C. -

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) will award $100,000 to the City of Henagar for a gas line extension that will help create 25 jobs and a $1.25 million capital investment at a local manufacturing plant.

“It is important that local communities have the infrastructure necessary to encourage economic growth,” said Shelby. “The extension of the gas line will provide less expensive and more efficient energy to Henagar’s local manufactures, benefitting the community as a whole.”

The extension of the gas line will not only support the industrial expansion, but will allow 33 homes and 16 commercial owners to connect to the system if they wish. In addition to ARC funds, the total expected project cost of $525,434 includes $425,434 from state and local sources.
