Shelby Announces $165,700 for Auburn University

March 24, 2008

Washington, D.C. -

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala), ranking member of the Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Subcommittee (CJS), today announced that the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded $165,700 to the University Center Program at Auburn University.

“The University Center Program at Auburn will use this important grant for research and technical assistance to help facilitate economic development in distressed communities across Alabama,” said Shelby. “The economies of our local communities are dependent on the productivity, innovation and entrepreneurship of their citizens.  It is critical that communities have access to resources that will assist them in developing revitalization and economic growth strategies.”

The EDA's University Center Program is a competitively-based partnership between EDA and academic institutions that makes the varied and vast resources of universities available to the economic development practitioner community.
