Shelby Announces $8,520 for Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue Service

March 21, 2008

Washington, D.C. -

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Homeland Security will release $8,520 to Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue Service.  The funding is provided through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program.

“The Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue Service will use this grant to fund its operations and safety programs,” said Shelby. “First responders serve day in and day out on the front lines to protect our communities.  This grant will help the Tuscaloosa Fire and Rescue Service continue its efforts to ensure the safety of the community.”

The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded these funds as a part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This program will distribute $490 million in direct federal assistance this year to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations nationwide.
