Shelby Announces $19,855 for Dixons Mills Volunteer Fire Department

March 7, 2008

Washington, D.C. -

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Homeland Security will release $19,855 to the Dixons Mills Volunteer Fire Department in Marengo County.  The funding is provided through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program.

“This important grant will help the Dixons Mills Volunteer Fire Department fund its operations and safety programs,” said Shelby.  “Our nation’s firefighters are true first responders and it is critical that they are adequately prepared for any event.”

The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded these funds as a part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This program will distribute $490 million in direct federal assistance this year to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations nationwide.
