Shelby Announces $66,965 for Coker Volunteer Fire Department

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Department of Homeland Security will release $66.965 to the Coker Volunteer Fire Department in Tuscaloosa County.  The funding is provided through the Assistance to Firefighters Grants Program.

“Firefighters are in the field everyday protecting our citizens,” said Shelby.  “We have a responsibility to ensure that our first responders are adequately prepared to respond to any event. The Coker Volunteer Fire Department will use this funding to improve and sustain its operations and safety programs.”

The Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency awarded these funds as a part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. This program will distribute $490 million in direct federal assistance this year to fire departments and nonaffiliated emergency medical service organizations nationwide.
